Jon Thomas
“These multilayered abstract forms are shaped purely by my subconscious. Visible forms start to manifest in the form of fragments. Memories, emotions and past experiences are transmitted in this process. The viewer is left with a mass of unorganised blocks & shapes that serve only as a visual marker to the structure's original function.”
Jon Thomas is a contemporary artist and sculptor based in Swansea on the South Wales coast, originating from a small Welsh mining community in the Black Mountains.
Jon originally studied 3-dimensional design at Sheffield Hallam University before a path through travel and eCommerce led to sculpture in 2017. Jon’s sculptures combine contemporary materials with repeating geometric and architectural forms. ‘My work explores the relationship between a building’s structure and its original function. With influences as diverse as the bauhaus to the stone architecture of ancient civilisations.’
