Manon Awst
Artist yw Manon Awst sy’n creu cerfluniau a gwaith safle-benodol wedi eu plethu â naratifau ecolegol. O glymweithiau corsiog i weadau rhynglanwol, mae hi’n archwilio’r ffyrdd y mae deunyddiau'n glynu at leoliadau a chymunedau ac yn eu trawsnewid. Mae ei dulIiau rhyngddisgyblaethol o weithio wedi eu ffurfio gan ei magwraeth yng Ngogledd Cymru, ei hastudiaethau academaidd mewn Pensaernïaeth ac Ymchwil Artistig, a deng mlynedd o ymarfer creadigol yn ninas Berlin fel rhan o’r artist-duo Awst & Walther
Archwilia’i gwaith cyfredol ecoleg arfordiroedd lleol iddi yng ngogledd orllewin Cymru, ac wystrysau yn benodol. Yn draddodiadol, mi fyddai wystrys wedi bod yn ffynhonell o faeth ac incwm mewn sawl rhan o arfordir Cymru, a gwel Awst y gallent chwarae rhan bwysig yn y dyfodol fel creaduriaid sy'n bwydo drwy hidlo ac a all eu meithrin yn llwyddiannus ar hyd glannau’r wlad
Arddangoswyd ei gwaith ar draws Prydain a’r Almaen gan gynnwys yn Cass Sculpture Foundation, Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Cymru, Mostyn, Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Amgueddfa Georg Kolbe a Kunstverein Braunschweig. Mae ganddi waith yn rhan o gasgliadau Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru, Llywodraeth Prydain, Senedd Cymru a’r Boros Colleciton ac mae gosodiadau parhaol ganddi ar Lwybr Arfordir Cymru yn Nant Gwrtheyrn ac yn Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin. Yn ddiweddar derbyniodd wobr i artistiaid gan yr Henry Moore Foundation ac mae hi’n un o Gymrodorion Cymru’r Dyfodol 2023-2025 fel rhan o raglen Natur Greadigol Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a Chyfoeth Naturiol Cymru

Manon Awst is a Welsh artist who creates sculptures, performances and site-specific artworks woven with ecological narratives. The ways in which materials stick to and transform locations and communities is at the forefront of her creative research. From the patterns of peatlands to the textures of the intertidal zone, she explores how we connect to more-than-human environments - what we notice, what we miss, and in what ways our coexistence might flourish. Her interdisciplinary approach is moulded by her upbringing in North Wales, her academic studies in Architecture and Artistic Research, and ten years of collaborative practice in Berlin as part of artist-duo Awst & Walther
Awst’s ongoing work explores the ecology of her local coastline in north-west Cymru, and specifically oysters. Oysters would have traditionally been an important source of nutrition and income along many parts of the Welsh coast, and Awst sees that they have an important role to play in the future as filter-feeders which can be successfully cultivated on our shores
She has exhibited widely in the UK and Germany including at Cass Sculpture Foundation, National Museum Wales, Mostyn, Boros Collection, Georg Kolbe Museum and Kunstverein Braunschweig. Her work is part of the National Library of Wales, the UK Government and Welsh Parliament art collections and she has long-term installations on the Wales Coastal Path at Nant Gwrtheyrn and at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin. She was recently granted a Henry Moore Foundation Artist Award and is currently a Future Wales Fellow, as part of Arts Council Wales and Natural Resources Wales’ Creative Nature programme
